COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (3-4-1, 0-1-0 in the Big Ten) fell to No. 7 Maryland (7-1-0, 2-0-0) 2-1 Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Terps went up 2-0 before Buckeye sophomore captain Laurence Wootton scored on a penalty kick drawn by Parker Grinstead in the 66^th minute to cut the lead in half.

How it Happened

Maryland got on the board first with a goal in the 24^th minute by Hunter George. The score ended a streak of 290 minutes in which the Buckeyes did not allow a goal dating to the game at No. 5 West Virginia Sept. 10. The Terps added another in the 58^th minute to secure the win.

Wootton scored for the fourth time this season after sophomore classmate Parker Grinstead dribbled in front of the net, was fouled and awarded a penalty kick in the 66^th minute. Wootton took the penalty and beat the Terps keeper in the lower left corner.

The Buckeyes had a several quality chances in the second half but the Maryland keeper was up to the task, making four saves in the win.

• The Buckeyes have scored first in the six of eight games this season.
• Ohio State has been involved in six games decided by one goal in addition to a double overtime 1-all draw vs. Creighton and a 2-0 win over Cleveland State.
• The Terrapins outshot the Buckeyes 10-4 in the first 45 minutes with a 4-1 lead in shots on net.
• For the game, Maryland led 13-9 in shots, 7-5 in shots on goal while the Buckeyes had the edge in corners, 7-4.

Notes

• The Buckeyes are 2-9-0 all-time vs. Maryland, including a 1-4-0 record in Columbus.
• Ohio State entered the game not allowing a goal over the previous 267 minutes in games at West Virginia (L, 0-1), and shutout wins over No. 7 Akron (W, 1-0) and Cleveland State (W, 2-0)
• Maryland scored in the 24^th minute to end the scoreless streak at 290 minutes.
• Senior Devyn Etling saw action for the first time this fall the last time out vs. Cleveland State after missing time with a lower body injury suffered vs. Michigan State in early April during the spring season. He responded with Ohio State’s second goal in the 2-0 win over the Vikings.
• The game vs. the Terps was played under clear skies with temperatures in the low 70s.
