Junior hockey: Wilderness break out in third period to sweep weekend - Pine Journal

The Minnesota Wilderness scored five times in the third period to put away Kenai River 8-4 for a North American Hockey League weekend sweep on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet.

Minnesota got eight goals from eight different players and had six players with multi-point games. Gunnar Thoreson added three assists to his goal, while Ethan Wolthers and Aaron Pionk (Hermantown) had two assists for three-point nights.

Minnesota led 3-2 after two periods, then scored three goals in the first 5:02 to put the game away.

Sam Livecchi made 27 saves for Minnesota (3-2-1), which continues its season-opening homestand with games Friday and Saturday vs. Janesville.
