Weather

Already cruising through the Greek alphabet

With tropical storm Theta expected to develop in the next few days, it would be the 28th storm so far this season, breaking the record of 27 which was set back in 2005.

More storms expected this week...

Tropical storm Eta continues to spin in the Gulf of Mexico, with some uncertainty where it moves over the next 5 days. However, the damage has certainly already been done across central America and south Florida.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a storm across the central Atlantic which has an 80% chance of developing over the next 5 days-- and another area of convection which has a 50% chance to develop in the next week.

More on this season's record pace

It really has been a remarkable hurricane season. The pace is really something too.

Eta, the storm we're tracking right now formed on November 1, 2020. The final storm in the 2005 season, Zeta (which is 1 BEFORE Eta) didn't form until December 30th, 2005!

That's to say we're an entire storm + 59 days ahead of where we were at this time in 2005!

And it's hard to believe it's almost been two months since we discarded the official list from the World Meteorological Organization when Wilfred formed on September 18th!

An unreal season... that we're all ready to toss on out already!
