GUNNISON, Colo. Saturday's 23-9 victory over then-No. 22 Colorado Mesa University spurred a leap up national and regional rankings for Western Colorado University football as the Mountaineers climbed two spots nationally to No. 18 and two spots regionally (Super Region IV) to No. 6.
Its overall record of 8-1 – with the only blemish an overtime road loss at No. 13 Colorado School of Mines – has Western climbing to its newest heights in recent gridiron history, and the Mountaineers' 7-1 record within Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition elevates the program to the top of the regular-season league standings.
Western has two games remaining on its schedule, a non-conference outing Saturday, November 6 against visiting Lincoln (Calif.) University, and an RMAC contest Nov. 13 against visiting Colorado State University Pueblo.
