BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Regular-season champion Stony Brook (28-16, 24-9 America East) built early leads in both games and completed a doubleheader sweep of Binghamton baseball (15-19, 15-19 AE) Friday afternoon at Rumbletown Stadium. The Seawolves won 7-1 and 15-3 and in the process, eliminated the Bearcats from postseason contention. The teams will finish the regular season with a twinbill beginning at noon on Saturday.

In the opener, Stony Brook scored four runs in the second inning and added another run in the third. After BU got one run back in the fourth, the Seawolves added two final runs in the seventh. Binghamton's offense was held in check on five hits - all singles.

Senior right fielder Daniel Franchi went 2-for-2 and senior secod baseman Alex Baratta drove in BU's run with an RBI single in the fourth. Down 5-1 in the fourth, the Bearcats had a chance to have a breakout inning after they loaded the bases with one out. But a strikeout and foul fly ball left three stranded. An inning-ending double play in the sixth with two runners on also hurt any comeback bid.

In Game 2, Stony Brook jumped out early again with three runs in the first and two more in the third to take a 5-2 lead. The Seawolves added two more in the sixth and then a back-breaking eight-spot in the seventh. That was more than enough as four SBU pitchers combined to record 18 strikeouts.

Baratta went 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace BU's six-hit attack. The Bearcats scored twice in the first and once in the seventh to account for their runs. With three hits on the day, Baratta raised his team-best batting average to .315 and also took over the team RBI lead with 21.

On Saturday, BU will honor its six seniors before the noon start. Playing their final collegiate games will be Baratta, Franchi, third baseman Justin Drpich, center fielder Shane Marshall, pitcher Jake Miller and catcher TJ Wegmann
