apenabe.blogspot.com
The fourth-seeded Florida softball team enters their 13th NCAA Super Regional series and will face Southeastern Conference rival Georgia Friday at 5 p.m. on ESPNU, Saturday at 12 p.m. on ESPN and if necessary a third game will be played Sunday at 12 p.m. on ESPN.

The Gators (45-9) hold an all-time record of 21-8 in 12 Super Regional appearances and have advanced to the Women's College World Series 10 times. This will be UFs second time facing UGA and the sixth consecutive year the program will take on an SEC opponent in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

Entering this weekend's series, Florida holds an all-time record of 42-28 against Georgia and 18-15 when playing in Gainesville. However, the last time the Bulldogs visited Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium was in 2017, prior the $15-million renovation to KSP Stadium. The Gators swept the Bulldogs in the series 5-0, 4-1 and 3-0.

This season UF took the regular season series, 2-1, in Athens, Ga. and outscored UGA 27-6 over the three-game series. The Gators fell in the opening game 4-2, but bounced back to take the second game 17-1 and the third game 8-1.

The two teams have only met four times in the NCAA Tournament with the most recent meeting coming at the 2018 Women's College World Series where the Gators run-ruled the Bulldogs 11-3 (5).

In regional action, the Gators earned three shutout victories. UF picked up a pair of wins against South Florida and one over South Alabama.

A sensational double play and a walk-off moment highlighted UF's 1-0 win over USF and the Gators rolled passed South Alabama in game two 10-0. A no-hitter by Elizabeth Hightower and a pair of great defensive gems by Hannah Adams capped the weekend with an 8-0 decision over USF.

Offensively, Charla Echols is batting an even .500 (4-for-8) with a double, a triple and a home run, while Cheyenne Lindsey (5-for-11), Sarah Longley (3-for-7) and Emily Wilkie (4-for-10) are all batting over .400 in NCAA postseason action.

In the circle, the Gators pitching staff of Elizabeth Hightower, Natalie Lugo and Katie Chronister have yet to give up a run in 21.0 innings pitched and have combined for 27 strikeouts, compared to just 7 walks, and a .047 opposing batting average.
