SPRINGFIELD – The number of patients admitted to Baystate Health hospitals suffering from COVID-19 has dropped slightly in a week as infections across the state continue to decline.

As of Sunday, hospital staff is caring for 26 patients with confirmed COVID-19 with five being treated in critical care units, officials said.

The previous week were 27 patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Baystate facilities and two weeks ago there were 39 patients at Baystate facilities being treated for the virus.

The decline comes as Gov. Charlie Baker has declared he will lift the March 2020 emergency order and related restrictions on Tuesday. As of Saturday, more than 3.6 million residents have been fully vaccinated.

Staff at Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, is currently caring for 25 of the patients. The other patient is being treated at Baystate Noble in Westfield, officials said.
