Ice Cube's Basketball League Drops Quinn Emanuel-Qatar Claim - Bloomberg Law

Ice Cube’s three-on-three basketball league abandoned a complaint alleging Quinn Emanuel had ulterior motives while representing Big3 Basketball in an employment dispute.

The case was filed on May 28 in New York State Supreme Court and was discontinued with prejudice on June 8 at the request of Big3 Basketball’s lawyers.

The filing does not say whether the case was settled or why it was discontinued. A spokesman for Michael Taitelman, a lawyer for Big3, said in a statement that “Big3 and Quinn have resolved their disputes in their entirety.”

When the case was filed, Quinn Emanuel called the suit’s claims a “fantasy-laden” effort to avoid paying the firm. A firm spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on the case’s ending.

The lawsuit sought to stop an imminent arbitration proceeding where Quinn Emanuel was to seek payment from Big3. The suit raised explosive claims about Quinn Emanuel’s representation of the league in a dispute with its ex-commissioner, former University of Virginia basketball star Roger Mason Jr.

The league claimed that Quinn Emanuel’s representation was an effort to “spy” on the league to advance the interests of the firm’s Qatari-based clientele, which had been in a long-running dispute with the league.
