Aminé Drops Second Music Video in One Week - Portland Monthly

apenabe.blogspot.com

Back in February, when 2020 seemed vast and full of potential, hometown hero Aminé dropped possibly the most Portland music video of all time, with a pointed opening line: "Let's not front / It's my year." After laying low for a few months, it looks like he’s ready to make good on that promise.

On Tuesday afternoon, UK electronic duo Disclosure pushed out the latest single from their upcoming LP Energy: a breathy dance floor burner called "My High" that pairs Aminé with British emcee slowthai. The video, directed by Simon Cahn (whose credits include visuals for Danny Brown), sees a gurney-bound ER patient take an incredible journey through Los Angeles while Aminé chants "please don't fuck up my high" in a purple tracksuit. It rules.

And it comes hot on the heels of another Aminé video—for solo single "Riri" from his still-untitled upcoming album—which hit last Wednesday. "You love Rihanna, but you ain't a savage," he starts over a sunny, twitchy Pasqué beat, namechecking the elusive hitmaker and peaking fans' hopes:

Even sans Rih, the clip is a very good time. As in "My High," Aminé foregoes Portland for sunny LA, where he brandishes a blunt in a car, dances in a parking garage, and takes a bunch of pictures of himself. When the video dropped, so did some accompanying merch, including this Rose City Cinema t-shirt, with 30 percent of the proceeds going to the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP.

While you wait patiently for album news, check out the rapper's star turn on the latest season of HBO's Insecure, and revisit our 2017 profile that covers the mechanics of his sudden rise.
