Softball Drops Series Opener At Ohio - Central Michigan University Chippewas

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio collected 12 hits, seven of them for extra bases, on Friday in downing Central Michigan, 7-2, in the opener of a three-game Mid-American Conference softball series at Ohio Softball Field.
 
The Chippewas, 16-18, 7-5 MAC, and Bobcats are scheduled to close the series with a doubleheader on Saturday (noon). Ohio is 16-18, 10-5.
 
The Chippewas trailed, 2-1, before Ohio scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take command.
 
CMU pitcher Grace Lehto struck out the first two batters of the inning, but then surrendered a double, a triple, and a two-run homer in succession. Reliever Kaitlyn Bean allowed a two-run homer to the first hitter she faced.
 
The Bobcats hit three home runs in the game.
 
CMU's Caitlyn Britton hit her eighth home run of the season in the seventh. The Chippewas' other run came on a Michaleigh Vallimont RBI single in the sixth.
 
Abbey Tolmie had two hits to lead the CMU hitters, while Maddie Springer doubled.
 
Lehto (9-9) allowed six runs on 11 hits and struck out five over 5 2/3 innings in taking the loss.
