HARRISONBURG, VA. – Elon University baseball fell 8-4 at James Madison in the second game of the CAA series on Saturday, April 12 at Veterans Memorial Park. The Phoenix drops to 13-13 overall and 1-4 in CAA play.

ON THE MOUND
Brian Edgington (4-1) received his first loss of the season after getting roughed up for five runs on eight hits and two walks. The Hatboro, Pa. native struck out five in the 4.2-inning start. Trevor Kirk allowed two runs on one hit and three walks in 0.2 innings out of the pen. Cam Seguin gave up the other run on two hits, issued no walks and struck out three over 2.1 innings of work. Sam DiLella also entered the game and recorded one strikeout in 0.1 innings tossed.

AT THE PLATE
Alex Iadisernia doubled twice and drove in two runs as he batted 2-for-4. Charlie Granatell went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and Cole Reynolds also hit 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Will Vergantino had the team's other double in a 1-for-3 outing, adding two RBIs to his totals. Parker Haskin ended up 1-for-2 with a run and one base and balls, Connor Coolahan went 1-for-3 with a run and two walks, and Luke Stephenson finished 1-for-4 with one walk.

THE RUNDOWN
JMU took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as a runner came home on a wild pitch. Elon pulled even in the top of the third as Coolahan singled to left center before Iadisernia doubled down the left-field line. However, the Dukes (16-10, 4-1) answered with an RBI single and a two-run blast to center field to pull away, 4-1.

Elon got back a run in the fourth. Reynolds started off the frame with a double to left center, moved up to third on a Justin Cassella ground out to second, and came around on a Vergantino double down the right-field line. Granatell singled to short and stole second, but he and Vergantino were left stranded.

In the bottom of the fifth, three straight one-out singles made it a 5-2 JMU advantage. The maroon and gold loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but came away with only one run. Iadisernia came within feet of a grand slam, but the JMU right fielder made the catch on the warning track and Carlos Marte trotted home. JMU ran the bags full in the bottom of the frame and a bases-loaded walk made it a 6-3 deficit. Iadisernia then made a leaping catch at the wall and another JMU runner crossed the plate on the play.

Haskin drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, advanced to second on a Reynolds single through the right side and took third on a wild pitch. A Vergantino fly ball to center was deep enough for Haskin to tag up on and the Phoenix closed the gap, 7-4. JMU's Trevon Dabney then hit a solo blast to left to round out the scoring in the eighth.

NOTES
- Iadisernia's double in the top of the first was headed for center field, but dropped in right field after hitting a goose midair.
- This was the first series loss to the Dukes in the all-time series.
