GENESEO, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team battled the No. 22 ranked team in the country in SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday afternoon as the Knights used a pair of complete game shutouts to power them to 1-0 and 2-0 wins. With the doubleheader setback, the Bombers dropped to 18-13 overall while Geneseo improved to 27-3.

Geneseo 1, Ithaca 0 (F)

  • Riley Piromalli and Lauren Kersch matched each other's dominance in the pitching circle as hits were hard to come by. No. 22 Geneseo got on the scoreboard with the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Taylor Riccardi led off the frame with a double to the right centerfield gap. The very next batter Audrey Minton stepped to the dish and doubles Riccardi home.
  • Piromalli finished allowing just one run on three hits as she allowed just two base runners after the second inning. The junior hurler finished with seven strikeouts.
  • The Bombers best chance to tie it up came in the top of the seventh inning when Julia Loffredo led off with a double. Lauren Kersch retired the next three IC batters in order to earn her 11th win of the season.
Geneseo 2, Ithaca 0 (F)
  • This time it was Anna Cornell and Elizabeth Eberhardt who battled it out in the pitching circle mowing down the opposing lineups. Ithaca threatened to score the opening run in the top of the second as Tava Kasper capitalized on a Knights throwing error. The Bombers were unable to drive Kasper in as Eberhardt forced Emman Kindblom into a ground out.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Knights put runners on first and second with back-to-back singles. They advanced to scoring positing on a sacrifice bunt and an Audrey Minton plated both runs a single that gave Geneseo a 2-0 lead.
  • The Bombers totaled three hits as Allison Dell'Orto, Sela Scheinman and Yalina Ellis each managed singles.
Ithaca's doubleheader with SUNY Cortland on Wednesday was canceled due expected weather in the area. The Bombers will host RIT on Friday, April 29 for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
