VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Albany swept a doubleheader from Binghamton baseball Saturday afternoon, taking the seven-inning opener 7-3 before walking off the nightcap, 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth. The games were moved from Albany to Binghamton but the Great Danes served as the home team for both.

In Game 1, Albany snapped a 3-3 tie with four decisive runs in the sixth inning - three of which were unearned. The Great Danes combined three hits with two BU errors. The Bearcats gave up single runs in each of the first, second and third innings before tying the game with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Freshman DH Evin Sullivan (2-for-2) led off with a single and sophomore first baseman Andrew Tan followed with a 2-run home run into the left field bullpen. Still down 3-2, freshman second baseman Nick Roselli followed with a solo home run over the right field fence, giving BU back-to-back homers and a 3-3 tie.

In Game 2, BU trailed 4-0 before rallying with three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to tie the game. But Albany put the winning run on base to open the bottom of the ninth and a bases loaded fly ball to right was easily deep enough to score the winning run.

In the eighth, BU used the long ball to get back in the game. With two outs, junior left fielder Cavan Tully and freshman third baseman Devan Bade drew back-to-back walks. Junior catcher Connor Aoki then sent an 0-1 pitch out of the park for a 3-run home run - his team-high fifth of the season.

The Great Danes tacked on two more runs in their half of the eighth, leaving the Bearcats with a 6-3 deficit. But in the ninth, Roselli drew a leadoff walk and senior right fielder Colin Mason followed with a single. Pinch-hitter Tan then sent a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left field for a 3-run home run - his second of the day. Binghamton then got the potential go-ahead run to third before a strikeout ended the uprising.

Albany then took advantage of BU's sixth error of the day to set up its walk-off hit.

Aoki went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Mason went 2-for-4. Tan bumped his afternoon RBI total to five, thanks to his long ball.

The teams will try to fit in the series finale Sunday afternoon, though the weather forecast might interfere.
