TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Illinois dropped its Tuesday night midweek matchup at Indiana State, 12-6. The Illini hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning as Taylor Jackson connected on a grand slam, followed by Freshman Camden Janik crushing his first career home run in the next at bat. Despite a five-run ninth inning, the Illini comeback effort fell short as Illinois moves to 19-15 overall and remains 10-2 in the B1G heading into another conference series this weekend.

Indiana State (20-9, 5-1) scored two runs in the first inning, two in the third inning, and broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. The Illinois offense was quiet until the five-run, two-home run ninth inning.

Calvin Shepherd started his third game of the season for the Illini, taking the loss on the mound to move to 0-2 on the season. Indiana State's Ridgway (2-1) is credited with the win.

Illinois is back at Illinois Field this weekend hosting Maryland for another B1G series. Both the Friday and Saturday evening games will be broadcasted by Big Ten Network, and Sunday's game will be streamed on B1G+.
