COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Four Mountaineer turnovers doomed their chance of a road win at Maryland in the 2021 season opener, as WVU fell to the Terps 30-24.
West Virginia got 280 passing yards from quarterback Jarret Doege (24 of 40), but he also threw two costly turnovers. WVU, which managed just 48 net rushing yards, also suffered through Leddie Brown fumble and a Winston Wright muffed punt.
Maryland totaled 496 yards of total offense in snapping a losing streak against West Virginia, which had defeated UM in nine of its previous 10 Border Rival battles.
WVU tries to bounce back in its next game, which will take place at Mountaineer Field next Saturday against Long Island University.
