The High Point University men's soccer team (6-6-3) will wrap up their regular season on the road as they head to the mountains to face UNC Asheville (1-13-1) on Wednesday night.
Matchup History with UNC Asheville
The Panthers lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs by a record of 19-5-2. UNCA has not defeated HPU since 2005. Last season, HPU faced UNCA twice, coming away with victories both times. In the regular season, the Panthers had four different goal scorers in a 5-1 victory. The two teams then met again in the semi-final of the Big South tournament in which HPU came out with a 1-0 victory.
A look at the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs come into Saturday's matchup with a 0-7 record in Big South play and a 1-13-1 record on the season. Their lone victory of the season comes against Northern Kentucky. Conor Behan leads the Bulldogs in points with two goals and three assists on the season.
Last Time Out
HPU battled Campbell to a hard-fought 0-0 tie on Saturday night. With the tie, the Panthers have clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming Big South tournament. Holden Trent picked up his seventh shutout of the season.
Haines on Last Time
We are very pleased with the performance, keeping a clean sheet against Campbell is always a great achievement. They are a team that does really well in the attack and has scored a lot of goals this season. They have only been held scoreless three times this season and to do it without Finn Mcrobb, MD Myers, Ashton Perkins, and a number of other guys was impressive. We knew it was going to be a challenge tonight fortunately we had a lot of guys step up and defend extremely well. But we also had some great chances to win the game. All in all, a really good performance it's something we can take into our game with Asheville and then the Big South Conference Tournament.
Sobacchi makes Big South Weekly Honors
Sobacchi had two key interceptions and two blocks. Sobacchi and the defense held the first draw in Big South play for the Camels and just the third time they have been shut out all year. Sobacchi and the backline held the Camels to just two shots on goal. HPU joins Elon and UNC as the three teams who have shut out CU in the fall of 2021.
UP NEXT
HPU will head into the postseason next week as the #2 seed in the Big South tournament. The Panthers will host a semifinal game on November 10th.
