As a result, the school was closed Friday.
In an update Friday, the district reported a person illegally entered the building early in the morning, rather than Thursday night as previously reported, "causing enough damage to two classrooms to make them unusable." Police were at the scene investigating, the district reported.
The district said the school is not requiring students or staff to participate in formal online learning Friday.
"We join you in disappointment at the damage done at Sheridan," the district wrote in a social media post. "We know this situation has been a special disappointment to our youngest learners and their families."
The incident remains under investigation.
According to the Mpls Police, someone entered the building illegally early this morning causing enough damage to two classrooms to make them unusable today. While the majority of the building is fine, classes were cancelled because the police were still on site investigating.
