Abbey Winery gearing up for 19th annual Harvest Festival - Canon City Daily Record

apenabe.blogspot.com

The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey is busy making preparations for its 19th annual Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 25 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26 on the winery grounds at 3011 E. U.S. 50. The fest is free and open to the public and features wine, live music, food, chili roasting, freshly harvested produce and arts and crafts vendors. Parents, please be advised that there is no Fun Zone this year for the protection of children.

The Harvest Fest will begin at 10 a.m. with the traditional Blessing of the Harvest by Fr. Jesse Perez, of St. Michaels’ Catholic Church. He has been the priest there for seven years, and before that nurtured the congregation in Leadville. He was born and raised in Salida and has close ties to Florence as well.

Kicking off the day’s music will be Hammerstadt Fusion of the Soul. A local favorite from Colorado Springs, they will be performing from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Hammerstadt is a four-piece electric ensemble, with a repertoire of blues, rock, jazz and fusion music.

Taking the stage at 2 p.m., CaƱon City’s own Deja Bluz will bust it out with their classic rock and roll sounds. Glenn McCarter and his friend Rick Kamerzell started the band 25 years ago. They are both original members of the Belvedere Blues Band, and the other band member, McCarter’s nephew Ethan McCarter, keeps the beat for the band on drums.

On Sept.29 at 10 a.m., the festival will begin with the mellow sounds of Mistura Bela, of Denver. Meaning Beautiful Mixture, this group is well known for their Brazilian sambas and Latin and jazz standards. They will take the stage from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Closing the show on Sunday afternoon is the raucous and crowd-pleasing Inman Brothers Band, who will take the stage at 1:30 p.m. From grandstands at the state fair to music festivals up and down the Front Range, they are a Colorado favorite. Founded in the late ’70s, the 5-piece southern rock band is based in Colorado Springs.

CCHS Homecoming festivities postponed

Due to the dozens of quarantines across the building, with more on Friday, officials have postponed the Homecoming Assembly, powder puff football game and dance until Oct. 28 and 29. This is in an effort to allow all students to participate.

Friday’s football game against Sierra was expected to still be played, but the homecoming festivities associated with it are moved to Oct. 28.  The assembly will also occur on the 28th and the dance will happen on Oct. 29.
