Softball Drops Nonconference Doubleheader At George Mason - Saint Joseph's University - Official Athletic Site

FAIRFAX, Va. – Playing a unique nonconference doubleheader at George Mason on Saturday, the Saint Joseph's softball team put forth a strong efforts in both contests, but the Patriots prevailed in the end as they topped the Hawks 10-6 in game one and 8-0 in six innings in game two.

How It Happened
Game One
Caela Abadie gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a RBI double that scored Molly Kapala.
• The Patriots scored twice in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 advantage.
• Kapala doubled home Sarah Ostaszewksi to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third.
• Abadie followed with a double, scoring Kapala to give Saint Joseph's a 3-2 edge.
• Behind six hits, the Patriots scored five runs in the bottom of the third to push ahead 7-3.
Nicole Bondoc scored on a RBI single by Kirstin Cox in the top of the fourth to cut George Mason's lead to 7-4.
• The Patriots plated a run in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 9-4.
• Bondoc scored her second run of the game in the top of the sixth on a RBI groundout by Kapala.
• George Mason answered back with a run in the bottom of the sixth to open a 10-6 lead.
Erica Lawrence scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Marinelli in the top of the seventh to get SJU to within 10-7.
• The Patriots held the Hawks off the scoreboard from there to pick up the win in the opener.

Game Two
• A RBI single by Marlaina Bozek gave George Mason a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
• A two-run double by Haellie Gordon pushed the Patriots' lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning.
• Behind a pair of RBI singles, George Mason extended its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
• The Patriots closed out the game with a three-run bottom of the sixth on a RBI double by Marissa Butts and two-run single by Meghan Graham.

Inside The Boxscore
Game One
• Kapala was 2-for-4 with two runs driven in and two runs scored.
• Abadie was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
• Cox was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Jessica Gaughan went 2-for-3 with a double.
Amanda Herr moved to 1-1 on the season as she allowed five earned runs on seven hits over 2.1 innings.
• Tossing 3.2 innings of relief, Saige Stutz allowed three runs on seven hits and added a pair of strike outs.

Game Two
Payton Baxter went 2-for-3 with two singles
• Abadie was 2-for-2 with a walk.
Lauren Pscolka was 1-for-2 with a double.
• In the circle, Emily Siler tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out two as she moved to 0-1 on the year.
• Herr tossed 0.1 innings of relief, allowing three runs on four hits.
• Today's game between the two Atlantic 10 teams do not count towards the conference standings as the games were nonconference matchups.

Saint Joseph's (1-2) caps its opening weekend of play with a single game at Delaware on Sunday at 2 p.m.
