While most high schools are on Spring Break, the J.P. Taravella baseball team played four games this week, going undefeated.

The Trojans outscored their opponents 37-3 in the four matchups and moved to 11-2 on the season, and got many different players into the game

“It’s not always easy getting guys in, but it’s always on our minds as coaches,” said Coach Giummule. “All our guys know, you never know who is going to be in the lineup from one day to the next, and they got to make the most of their opportunities when their number is called.”

JPT opened the matchup with Somerset Academy on Saturday, March 21, where they put up a four-spot in the first inning while Chris Scinta pitched six brilliant innings on the mound. Vicent Samuel drove in two runs while Justin Rivera had one.

In their second game, JPT defeated Pine Crest School 8-0 as Colby Lipovsky earned the win. Josh Boyd, T.J. Fredricks, and Matt Zeff all pitched scoreless innings as the Trojans allowed only two hits. Offensively, E.J. Burns drove in three runs while Samuel, Tony Sanders, Scinta, Jassiel Valbuena, and Hunter Zetner had RBI’s.

On Tuesday, the Trojans continued their offensive explosion and defeated Deerfield Beach High School 12-2.

Scinta led the team driving in five runs, including a home run. Sanders played a pair of Trojans while Fredricks had two runs batted in. Dalton Juden made the start to pick up the win while Brandon Metiver pitched the final three innings.

In their final game on Wednesday, JPT defeated Westminster Academy 15-0. Logan Plasencia struck out eight in three innings. Burns led the way with four runs RBI’s. Samuel and Fredricks combined to drive in five as Scinta recorded the final three outs.

The Trojans baseball team will be in action next Thursday, March 31, against Coral Glades High School at 7 p.m. as JPT hopes to finish the season as the number one seed and win Districts.
