ACPS to Revert to Virtual After Spring Break - Alexandria Living Magazine

Increasing community transmission and spring break travel plans among students and staff have pushed Alexandria City Public Schools to revert to virtual learning the week after spring break.

Spring break in Alexandria starts this Saturday, March 26. Hybrid students were scheduled to return to classrooms as early as Tuesday, April 6, but all students will remain virtual that week.

In a message to parents, ACPS Superintendent Gregory Hutchings wrote: "After review of current community health metrics and our desire to limit a potential community spread within our school buildings, we have decided to continue to follow our proactive approach of prioritizing health and safety, and transition to virtual learning for all students for the week after Spring Break, April 5-9.

With members of our school community potentially traveling outside of the National Capital Region, transitioning temporarily to virtual learning is a precautionary step to protect against COVID-19 transmission in our school buildings after Spring Break. Our schools will resume hybrid learning on Tuesday, April 13, for those students who are currently in the hybrid program."

The school system may be able to welcome additional students into the hybrid learning program the week of April 20, provided community transmission of COVID-19 is low enough to do so safely.
