HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University men's basketball team (7-8, 0-2 C-USA) fought hard with a limited roster against the Florida Atlantic Owls (8-6, 1-0 C-USA) on Saturday night, but fell 90-77 in the Cam Henderson Center.

"They're trying to figure out how to play big in big moments. We haven't done it yet," Marshall men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the loss.

Freshman Obinna Anochili-Killen led MU with a career-high 23 points. The forward made seven of his 13 attempts from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Junior Taevion Kinsey followed with a 20-point outing as senior Mikel Beyers added 11 points, making 9-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe. Freshman David Early dished out a career-high eight assists.

The Herd played short-handed in the contest as it saw four student-athletes play 30 or more minutes, including Kinsey, Anochili-Killen and redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor never leaving the court.

A slow start for Marshall on the offensive end saw FAU jump out to a 22-8 lead at the 10:06 mark in the first half.

However, after the two sides traded runs the next eight minutes, MU closed the opening period on an 8-1 run. Early knocked down a pair of long balls and freshman Chase McKey made a layup during the run as the Herd trailed 40-32 at the break.

The Green and White continued to fight hard in the second half cutting the deficit to as few as five points, 72-67, with 7:44 left in the game. However, a pair of 6-0 runs down the stretch by the Owls held off the Marshall comeback.

NOTES
Kinsey reached double-figure scoring for the 49th consecutive contest. It was his 10th game of 20 or more points this season.

McKey made his first start and tallied a career-high nine points.

The Herd made a three in its 985th consecutive game, with the last contest without a triple occurring on Feb. 27, 1989, in a win over App State.

Anochili-Killen scored 10 or more points for the 13th time this season. The Lagos, Nigeria, native set a career-high with five made three-point baskets.

Beyers recorded at least 10 points for the second time this season.
