HARTFORD, CT. - The Binghamton volleyball team fell to Hartford 3-0 in an America East contest Friday evening. Anna Sprys had eight blocks on the night, but the Bearcats were on the losing side of an 18-25, 15-25, 21-25 decision.
Alongside Sprys' strong defensive performance, Kiara Adams continued to facilitate, contributing 23 assists. Offensively, Stefana Stan and Elis Gadelha led the way with seven kills apiece. Sprys added six. Emily Rail had 13 digs.
The first set remained close early, but a 7-1 run by the hosts gave Hartford a 14-8 lead. A Gadelha kill tightened the deficit to 17-14, but the Hawks went on to score four straight points en route to taking the frame, 25-18.
Hartford grabbed an early edge in the second set, but BU climbed back to 10-9 after a bad set by the Hawks. A 5-0 run and a 4-0 run by Hartford followed Binghamton's run, as the home team followed with a 25-15 second set victory.
The third set was tied at 10 following a kill by Tyra Wilson, but the Hawks proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to put away the match. Binghamton responded, climbing back to a 23-20 deficit before Hartford took two of the final three points to win.
Binghamton continues road play Saturday, with a match at New Hampshire. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
