Keydets Break Three School Records at AE Championships - Virginia Military Institute - VMI Athletics

NEWARK, N.J. – The VMI men's and women's swimming and diving teams set three new school records Saturday on day two of the three-day America East Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by NJIT. Several new freshman top marks were also recorded.

The men's 100 breaststroke record was set twice in the evening session. Freshman Chase Lane was eighth in the 100 breast in 56.60 to break sophomore Jack Sheehan's record, until Sheehan took back his spot in the record book in the next heat, finishing sixth in 56.40. Lane does now hold the school freshman record in the event.

Chino Vera was 10th in the 100 backstroke in 52.69, while Ryan Cooper (4:10.16) and Conner Jorgensen (4:14.22) placed seventh and 11th, respectively in 400 IM. Dalton Cosner finished 16th in the 100 fly in 52.09, Collin Marks placed 12th in the 200 free in 1:44.24 with Connor Doyle close behind in 14th in 1:46.20.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Vera, Sheehan, Kong and Cosner were fourth in 1:25.11 while Vera, Lane, Tyler Blackwell and Cosner finished the 400 medley relay in 3:27.86 to set the school freshmen record.

The Keydet women broke two school records: freshman Anne Bowles finished 13th in the women's 100 breast in 106.73 while junior Sophie Svoboda was 16th in the 200 free in 1:56.08.

Sarah Liebenow set a new freshman record in the 400 IM in 4:59.72. The 200 free relay team of Svoboda, Isabella DeCosta, Jillian Maher and Kate Taylor finished in 1:42, while the 400 medley relay team of Ruki Sarkari, Bowles, Maher and Svoboda recorded a time of 4:11.04. Maher was 21st in the 100 fly in 1:03.79 and Sarkari was 22nd in the 100 back in 1:04.92.

Day three events begin with women's races at 11 a.m. followed by men's competition at 5:35 p.m. The entire meet will air on ESPN+ domestically. Fans outside of the United States can watch the event on AmericaEast.TV.
