ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Eli Hernandez, 47, received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at Meadow Woods Rec Center in South Orange County.

The site opened on Monday with nearly 40 appointments booked the first hour.

“It was very convenient I live three blocks away. My kid goes to school next door so once I dropped him off it was easy to come over,” Hernandez said.

Last week, Orange County officials explained how they plan to bring more vaccination mobile sites into communities since the demand at the convention center has dropped.

“I think when you bring it into the community and closer to people’s homes, it’s just going to make it easier for them to just come out,” Hernandez said.

Organizers said they have 1,000 doses of Pfizer to administer per day and are offering appointments and walkups.

“We haven’t found the magic formula really yet to draw more people, more patients into facilities so we are getting several options to see what looks best for the community,” Blain Mustang with Orange County Health Services said.
