LUBBOCK, Texas – A complete offensive and defensive performance helped Texas Tech (11-8) take the first two games of the series against New Mexico (1-17) Friday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.

The Red Raiders outhit the Lobos 17 to four over two games scoring a combined 13 runs while allowing just three runs and striking out 16 total batters.

Six total runs were scored in the first inning as the Lobos struck first on a two-run home run to right field.

The Red Raiders answered in the bottom half of the inning, plating four with the help of a couple of Lobos errors. Yvonne Whaley reached on an error by the first baseman and moved to second on an infield single from Heaven Burton. Another error on a sac bunt from Karli Hamilton scored Whaley and put runners on the corners with no outs. The bases became loaded for Maddie Westmoreland who flew out to deep right field to score Burton and advance Hamilton to third. Breanna Russell followed up with a single through the left side to score Hamilton and move Zoe Jones into scoring position. A single from Riley Love loaded the bases again for Kelcy Leach who hit a sac fly to center field to score Jones for the fourth run of the inning.

After an eventful first inning, neither side would score again until the Red Raiders added three runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. Once again, the runs were sparked by an error to lead off the inning as Arriana Villa reached base on a poor throw from the pitcher. Back-to-back singles from Whaley and Burton loaded the bases for Hamilton who knocked a two RBI single up the middle and advanced to third on an errant throw that scored Burton.

The Lobos made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh after a couple of singles and a walk loaded the bases. An error from Villa with two outs plated one run and kept the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate. However, Missy Zoch's eighth strikeout of the game ended the threat and gave the Red Raiders the 7-3 game one win.

Zoch (5-2) gave up just three hits and struck out a season-high eight batters in a complete game win.

Hamilton and Burton each tallied their sixth multi-hit game of the season. Love recorded her first career multi-hit game with a pair of singles.

Texas Tech 6, New Mexico 0
Erin Edmoundson (5-4) pitched her second one-hit complete game shutout of the season, tying her season-high with eight strikeouts in a game two victory over New Mexico.

The only hit of the game for the Lobos came in the first inning on a single to left field.

The Red Raiders got a pair of runs across in the first off the bats of Hamilton and Jones. Burton reached base on a fielder's choice and stole second to get into scoring position for Hamilton who doubled to right center to bring in the first run of the game. Hamilton stole third and Jones singled through the left side to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team.

Tech added two more in the second inning after a leadoff hit by pitch and a single from Villa put two runners on with no outs for Whaley. Whaley ripped a two-RBI double to right center to double the Red Raider lead.

New Mexico almost broke up the shutout in the top of the fourth when Taryn Young belted a ball over the left field wall for a two-run home run. However, the play was blown dead as the runner on first was called for leaving early for the final out of the inning.

The Red Raiders found themselves with the bases loaded again in the fifth inning after a single from Burton and back-to-back walks from Hamilton and Jones. Westmoreland picked up her second sac fly of the day to score Burton and give Tech the 5-0 lead in the fifth.

Tech retired New Mexico in order in the top of the sixth thanks to a spectacular play from Burton who caught a ball over the fence in foul territory and doubled up the runner at second who reached on a hit by pitch. Edmoundson ended the top half of the inning with her seventh strikeout of the day.

One more run came across in the bottom of the sixth for the Red Raiders following a pair of singles from Kennedy Crites and Villa and a walk that loaded the bases. Hamilton then grounded out to second but a throwing error on the play allowed Jacee Hamlin, running for Crites, to score.

Edmoundson's eighth strikeout ended the game and gave the Red Raiders the series win over the Lobos with one more game to play.
