WACO, Texas – No. 10 Texas Baseball dropped the series finale to Baylor, 11-2, on Sunday at Baylor Ballpark. The Longhorns (14-6, 2-1) won their first Big 12 Conference series of the season despite dropping the Sunday finale.
Baylor got an early lead and never let up, going up 5-0 through four innings and then putting the game away with six runs in the seventh.
Baylor jumped out to a 2-0 lead on three hits in the bottom of the first inning but Kolby Kubichek was able to leave two runners on to end the inning. Kubichek pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits.
The Bears added a run to the lead on a sacrifice fly to go up 3-0 through three innings. Two unearned runs then crossed the plate in the fourth to give Baylor a 5-0 lead.
The Longhorns got a run back in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1. Trey Faltine doubled and Cam Williams drove him in with an RBI single.
Douglas Hodo III started the sixth inning with a double and moved to third an error before Mike Antico drove him in with a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 5-2.
Baylor scored six more runs on five hits in the seventh to extend the lead to 11-2.
Texas returns to UFCU Disch-Falk Field to host UIW on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before welcoming Oklahoma for a three-game series.
