DURHAM –Seventh-ranked Pittsburgh scored with 3:27 remaining in the second overtime to hand Duke a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in ACC men's soccer action Friday evening at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils battled back from a 3-1 deficit in the second half before the Panthers escaped with victory.

Highlighting the night for the Blue Devils was a three-point outing from midfielder Miguel Ramirez. The rookie recorded his first career goal as well as his first career assist to help Duke rally from a 3-1 second-half deficit and force overtime.

Panther sophomore Arturo Ordoñez registered the game winner, heading in his own rebound after a cross from Valentin Noel from the left side. The goal all started when the Blue Devils were unable to clear a set piece out of danger and Noel go the ball on the endline and served the ball across the face of the goal where Duke goaltender Eliot Hamill made a fantastic diving save on Ordoñez header. The rebound came right back to the Panther midfielder and he headed into the back of the net for the golden goal.

Hamill finished the night with a career-high seven saves as Pitt fired 19 shots in the game. Rookie Thorleifur Ulfarsson also registered his first goal as a Blue Devil, while senior Daniel Wright notched his team-best fourth goal of the season.

The Blue Devils jumped out in front in the third minute as Wright attacked the Pitt defense and drew a foul in the penalty area. The veteran forward stepped right up to the penalty spot and buried his shot past Nico Campuzano for a 1-0 advantage.

Pittsburgh (10-2, 6-1) equalized in the 28th minute on a strike from Noel from just outside the 18-yard box. The Panthers continued to pressure the Blue Devils, including hitting the crossbar, but Duke's came through with quality defensive plays to keep the score knotted at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Panthers, forced to play a man down for the entire second half after a red card was issued following a video review at halftime, capitalized on a pair of scoring chances five minutes apart to surge ahead 3-1. Noel netted his second of the day, finishing a failed clearance from Duke, while Filip Mirkovic put away a rebound to make it 3-1.

The Blue Devils received a huge lift off the bench as Ramirez came into the game as a left midfielder in the 61st minute. Six minutes later he stayed active inside the box as Ulfarsson had a couple of his shots denied on the goal line. As the ball bounced around inside the six-yard box, Ramirez knocked it home to pull Duke within one.

Just over four minutes later Ramirez again was involved as he one-time a cross toward the near post where sophomore Scotty Taylor headed the ball off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Ulfarsson for the tying goal.

Duke (3-9-2, 3-5-0) to find the winning goal, but headed to overtime for the sixth time of the season.

Pitt outshot Duke 19-12 for the game and held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks. Campuzano made two stops in the 107 minutes of action.
