HOMEWOOD, Ala. – The Kennesaw State softball team (2-6, 0-0 ASUN) came up short in two gritty games of a doubleheader against the Samford Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.
Cheyanne Sales had two doubles on three hits between the two contests and extended her hitting streak to seven games, the longest of her KSU career.

Game One at Samford (L, 1-0)
The first of the two contests Sunday afternoon was a tale of two tough defensive performances. After a stalemate through the first two innings, Samford got out to a 1-0 lead that proved to be the difference in the ballgame.
Cheyanne Sales led the Owl bats, accounting for two of the three hits including a leadoff double in the top of the second inning. Her two hits tied the team-lead of seven on the 2022 season with Kiera Cooper and Taylor Cates.
Starter Melanie Bennett worked 6.0 innings with six strikeouts and only one earned run from eight hits. The Owl defense stymied Samford runners throughout the game, stranding 10 runners. Bennett (1-3) was credited with the loss.

Notes:
>> Sales recorded her team-leading third double of the season.
>> The Owl defense stranded 10 Bulldogs runners.
Game Two at Samford (L, 6-1)
The Bulldogs would get the fireworks started in the bottom of the first, hitting a three-run home run to center to get an early 3-0 lead. Samford would add on the very next inning, jumping out to a 6-0 lead.
KSU would rally in the top of the seventh after a leadoff double from Sales who crossed home two batters later off a single by Katie Greep, cutting the score to 6-1. The late-game rally would not be enough to overcome Samford's lead.
Pitcher Emily Perrin entered the game in the bottom of the second and saw the defense through the rest of the game, retiring 16 of 22 batters faced. Laura Bishop (1-2) was credited with the loss.

Notes:
>> Freshman Isabella Galloway recorded her second multi-hit game of her career.
>> Sales extended her hitting streak to seven games, the longest of her career.
>> Mary Greg Anderson extended her team-lead in stolen bases to four.
>> KSU pitching allowed its first home run of the 2022 season after eight games played.
>> Samford left 11 batters on base, adding to a total of 38 across the four-game series.
