WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Junior Moses Flowers scored a game-high 24 points as the Hartford men's basketball team came back from a six-point halftime deficit, defeating Stony Brook, 74-70 on Sunday night. The Hawks were on fire in the second half, shooting 60.0 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from three.
 
Hartford (9-17), improves to 7-7 in America East action, while Stony Brook, who were led by 23 points by Tykei Greene, drops to 16-12 overall and 8-7 in the league.
 
HARTFORD 74, STONY BROOK 70
Stony Brook started the game hot, taking an early 7-0 lead. Senior Austin Williams cut the Seawolves momentum, draining a three to make the score 7-3 at the 18:07 mark. The Seawolves would start to pull away, but a Flowers triple brought the Hawks back within four, 12-8. The Hawks would go on to tie the game, 15-15, after David Shriver sunk a floating jumper with 11:02 remaining in the half. However, Stony Brook would reestablish a five-point advantage until Shriver drained another triple, bringing the Seawolves lead down to 25-23 with 7:02 left in the half. Stony Brook would end the half on a 10-6 run, taking a 35-29 lead into the break.
 
Hartford would be the ones to start the second half hot, going on a 5-0 run, capped off by a Jared Kimbrough layup, pulling the Hawks within one, 35-34. The two teams would trade buckets in the early portion of the second half, playing out to a 40-36 Seawolves advantage with 17:03 remaining. Both teams would go cold, not making another shot until Briggs McClain scored five-straight points, giving the Hawks a 41-40 lead at 13:52. The Seawolves would retake its lead, but the Hawks would explode for an 11-0 run, capped off by a Williams driving layup, giving the Hawks a 56-46 lead at the 7:01 mark. Stony Brook would try and mount a comeback, but a Carter pull-up jumper extended the Hawks lead to 11, 61-50.
 
The game would turn into a battle of free-throws in the final three minutes. A pair of freebies from Flowers reestablished a double-digit lead for the Hawks, 64-54, with 2:06 remaining. Stony Brook would try another comeback, using a 5-0 run, capped off by a pair of free throws from Greene, pulling the Seawolves within six, 65-59. A few moments later, Stony Brook would hit a three, pulling them back within three, 69-66, with 39 seconds left in the game. Flowers would come up clutch from the line, making a pair of free throws, but a 4-0 Stony Brook run cut the Hawks lead to one, 71-70. The Seawolves would not get any closer however, as Flowers and McClain iced out the game from the charity stripe, as the Hawks completed the comeback, earning a 74-70 victory.
