TROY, N.Y. – Six players recorded multiple points, including three from Zakary Karpa, to pace the Harvard University men's hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday night at the Houston Field House. With the win in the regular season finale, the Crimson improve to 16-9-3 (13-6-3 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 15-20-3 (10-12-0 ECAC Hockey).

Harvard broke onto the board at 8:16 of the opening frame, when freshman Matthew Coronato (Greenlawn, NY / Chicago Steel) dangled through the right circle and picked out the top right corner of the net for his 13th goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, junior defenseman Henry Thrun (Southborough, MA / USNDT) buried a cross-crease feed from sophomore Alex Laferriere (Chatham, NJ / Des Moines Buccaneers) on the rush for a 2-0 advantage.

Karpa (Newport Beach, CA / Des Moines Buccaneers) pushed the vistors' lead to 3-0 at 14:12 of the first, snapping home a pass from junior captain Nick Abruzzese (Slate Hill, NY / Chicago Steel) for his sixth tally of the season. Freshman defenseman Kyle Aucoin (Ottawa, ON / Muskegon Lumberjacks) collected the secondary helper on the play.

Abruzzese then made it a four-goal first with a power play goal at 19:16, burying a one-timer past RPI graduate student netminder Linden Marshall (Victoria, BC / Trail Smoke Eaters) for his sixth of the campaign.

The Crimson netted their second man advantage tally of the game at 5:35 of the second on a rebound goal by Thrun from the right circle. Karpa saw his initial shot from the middle of the slot kept out by Marshall, but the carom fell to Thrun, who stuck home his second of the game and sixth of the season for a 5-0 lead.

RPI pulled one goal back in the third period, as senior captain Ture Linden (Great Falls, VA / Lone Star Brahmas) potted his third goal of the weekend and team-leading 17th of the year. Receiving a long pass from classmate Ottoville Leppanen (Espoo, Finland / Espoo Blues U20) in the left circle, he ripped a shot past Harvard sophomore netminder Derek Mullahy (Scituate, MA / Des Moines Buccaneers) at 4:08 of the period.

The Engineers continued their strong play throughout the third, but could stick a second puck past Mullahy (3-1-2), who finished with 24 saves. Marshall (9-13-3) had 22 stops at the other end of the ice.

Harvard wound up 2 for 3 on the power play, while the Engineers were 0 for 2.

Rensselaer will host Dartmouth College in a best-of-three ECAC Hockey Tournament First Round series next weekend, with times TBA.
