TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball dropped its weekend finale against Georgia Sunday afternoon at Foster Auditorium in three sets (22-25, 17-25, 18-25).
Alabama (10-13, 2-9 SEC) tied up the score twice late in the first set but Georgia (8-14, 4-7 SEC) edged out the Tide with a three-point win. The Bulldogs were in front for the majority of the rest of the match, winning sets two and three by eight and seven points, respectively. Abby Marjama led the team in kills for the third-straight match, finishing with 11, while Dru Kuck posted a team-leading 12 digs in her first start at libero since returning from injury.
Tied at 7-7 in set one, Georgia distanced themselves with an 8-2 run to lead 15-9 at the media timeout. Alabama chipped away at the deficit, eventually drawing within one on a Kendyl Reaugh service ace as the Bulldogs took a timeout at 19-18. The Tide eventually knotted up the score at 20-20 but then took a late timeout after back-to-back points for Georgia. It was tied again at 22-22 but the Bulldogs scored three unanswered to win, 25-22.
Alabama burned an early timeout in set two after Georgia took an early 5-1 lead. The Bulldogs approached a double-digit lead before the Tide would fight back within six at 19-13 and with the margin the same later at 23-17 Georgia scored back-to-back to win the frame. The Bulldogs took an early lead again in the third and the Tide rallied within three before a 4-0 run from Georgia made it 17-10. The Bulldogs closed out the frame with another 4-0 run, winning 25-18 to complete the sweep.
