JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A portion of Norwood Avenue near West 44th Street was closed Wednesday afternoon after a water main break.

Footage from Sky 4 showed the water rushing into the parking lot of a nearby Walgreens. The road had partially caved in along Norwood Avenue.

The main break was first reported at 3:48 p.m. At about 6:20 p.m., crews had isolated the break. JEA said the road will be closed throughout the evening and into Thursday morning.

“Homes in the area may experience loss in water pressure. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes for families,” a JEA spokesperson said in a statement.

“It was flushing, like, pouring. It was so much water. It looked like it was coming from a lake or something. That’s how much water was gushing out on the streets,” said Lashaun Miller, who was in the area.

JEA crews will reconstruct the road with temporary asphalt once repairs are complete, the spokesperson said. A final paving will then be scheduled for a later date.

According to JEA, the water valves closest to the impact site had been paved over with asphalt. Crews used equipment to remove the asphalt and uncover the valves.
