BTS has announced the band is taking an extended break, in what will be the K-pop superstars' first hiatus since 2019.
Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook confirmed that they need a break in order to get "re-inspired and recharge with creative energy."
The group's music company, Big Hit, shared a statement and urged fans that this break is needed for the group to come back better than ever, and would also enable members to spend the holidays with their loved ones.
"This period of rest will provide the members of BTS—who have tirelessly committed themselves to their activities—a chance to get re-inspired and recharge with creative energy," the statement reads.
"It will also be the first time for them since their debut to spend the holiday season with their families. We kindly ask once again that you show consideration for their need to enjoy ordinary and free, everyday lives while solely concentrating on themselves, albeit for a short while, during their period of rest."
Big Hit noted that after the last time BTS went on a break in 2019, the members then went on to stay "active in order to engage with fans in 2020 and 2021 amidst the Covid-19 situation, and achieved dazzling results to cement themselves as top global artists."
What Happened the Last Time BTS Took a Break in 2019?
In summer 2019, the band took an extended break in August which lasted for a month.
"This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentlessly driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators," the bands' management said at the time, per Billboard.
"This will also provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly."
Despite the break, some BTS members stayed active on social media and engaged with fans while on hiatus.
In particular, Jimin regularly went live on South Korean streaming platform VLive.
Now fans are speculating if the beloved group will engage with their fans during this break.

BTS' management has also confirmed it will be preparing to perform once again early in 2022.
"BTS will be focusing on preparing for the concert and release of the new album that will mark the beginning of a 'new chapter,'" Big Hit Music said. "They are preparing for a concert this coming March to connect and communicate with the fans in-person in Seoul."
