With the losses, the Hawks fall to 3-8 on the season and 1-8 in the America East, while the Great Danes improve to 16-16 overall and 6-6 the America East.
GAME ONE: UALBANY 9, HARTFORD 1 (5)
UAlbany jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the first inning of game one. The Great Danes would tack on one run in the second, before adding three more in the bottom half of the third to take a 9-0 lead into the fourth inning. The Hawks were able to get one run back as Mara Sczecienski scored off of a Samantha Nagel double, but the deficit would prove to be too much to overcome as UAlbany took game one, 9-1 after five innings.
GAME TWO: UALBANY 2, HARTFORD 1
The Great Danes would strike early again in game two, taking a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning. Hartford would look to quickly respond, getting runners on first and second, whoever they could not take advantage of the scoring opportunity. UAlbany would score a run in the fourth to increase its lead to 2-0 before the Hawks quickly fired back in the top half of the fifth. Sczecienski leaded off the inning with a single, before advancing to third after a single from Lily Sencer. Danielle Rocheleau would bring Sczecienski home as she ripped an RBI single into left field, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, Hartford would be unable to add any more runs, falling to UAlbany in game two, 2-1.
NEWS AND NOTES
· Caylee English (2-3) started inside the circle in game one, allowing five earned runs to pick up the loss
· Lauren Card pitched 3.1 innings of relief in game one, allowing four runs
· Julianna Kocenski (0-4) earned the start in game two, allowing two runs off six hits while striking out one batter in 6.0 innings of work
· Sczecienski scored both runs for the Hawks across the doubleheader
· Sencer was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in game two
NEXT ON TAP
Hartford hits the road for the final time in 2021, traveling to Baltimore for a doubleheader against UMBC on April 28. The Hawks and Retrievers were originally scheduled to open conference play with a three-game series on March 27-28. Wednesday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
