Block Island Express has announced that its high-speed ferry service between New London and Block Island will begin June 19.
According to the website, the capacity of vessels has been reduced in accordance with Rhode Island Health Department recommendations, and signs have been added "encouraging passengers to maintain the 6-foot rule whenever possible." Customers are required to wear cloth face coverings.
Block Island Express recommends that people make reservations beforehand online or through the call center to avoid exposure, but those who arrive without a reservation can get a ticket outside rather than in the ticket office. There are more hand sanitizing stations on vessels, and crew members will be deep-cleaning and sanitizing at night.
Beaches, Greenway Trails, Ball O'Brien Park and moped, bicycle, kayak and paddleboard rentals are open, while the Town Beach Pavilion is closed. At the lighthouses and library, the grounds are open but the buildings are closed.
