Why I Live to Break All the WFH Style Rules - Vogue

apenabe.blogspot.com

As we continue our social-distancing pledge, the Vogue staff is working from home for the foreseeable future. This article is part of our This Week on Zoom column, where one Vogue editor shares their WFH outfits from the previous workweek—from the waist up, of course.

When the Vogue market team asked me to do the WFH series, I laughed. First, my iPhone is broken, so I can only take selfies. Sad! Second, my apartment is not so, um, pleasing to the eye. Just this past month, my ceiling fan dislocated and was hanging on by two wires. I was stuck sweating in a boy’s Hanes tank and a thong from Amazon. A true vision.

As for my outfits? Truthfully, I don’t really dress up for Zoom meetings, or really anything anymore. I wear the same thing everyday: A rotation of a few boring tank tops, and a pair of men’s boxers on the bottom. If I venture out, it’s Wrangler jeans. Yes, I know this minimal effort mode is bad for the psyche, I’ve written a whole article on it! That’s not to say I haven’t attempted to dress up for some big meetings here or there. I do! On a good day, I will put on some colorful shirt before quickly removing it right after. Pro-tip!

In truth, I do find this whole WFH concept to be fun. The time I’ve had alone in my apartment has been a tabula rasa for my wardrobe, a moment to really figure out what I like and what I don’t like. Plus, this project in particular has allowed me to think outside the box. To break the WFH slump, I’ve been wearing a lot of pants, trading boxers for jeans or vintage python-print trousers. I know jeans-at-home is a contentious subject, but putting on pants get me into the mindset of “it’s time to be a real person, a sturdy cog in the machine, and work!”

I filmed myself in the two places that I work from the most, which is my bed, and my fire escape where I have a folding chair and an umbrella. Though I almost fell off of the metal stairs that go three floors up while trying to nail my emergence moment, I think this whole thing turned out pretty well.

Monday

Rise and shine to everyone’s most detested day of the week, Monday! I’m going all in and numbing my entrance into this Sisyphean universe by wearing a print Gucci shirt that I got off The RealReal. Fun fact: It was in a campaign from Spring 1999 and it was a steal. Except for a few things that I own, I believe in buying things already-worn, unless it is from an independent designer who values eco-friendly clothing. (Support a circular economy! Support the youth!) Also, I washed my hair today: Thanks, Garnier Fructis.
