After giving up a nine-point lead with three minutes left in regulation, the Minnesota Lynx rallied to snap the Las Vegas Aces' winning streak with a 90-89 overtime decision Friday in Minneapolis.
Minnesota (7-7) built on a 25-15 third quarter to pull ahead 82-73 with 3:11 remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday's Commissioner's Cup matchup. But Kelsey Plum scored seven of her 15 points to ignite a 9-0 Las Vegas run, which A'ja Wilson capped with two free throws with two seconds remaining to force overtime.
The Lynx recovered in the extra frame, with Layshia Clarendon and Sylvia Fowles scoring all eight points. Clarendon scored 20 points on the night to go with seven assists, while Fowles posted a game-high 30 points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Las Vegas (10-4) never had a chance to win the game at the end of overtime. Chelsea Gray had a turnover with 27 seconds remaining.
Clarendon then missed a 3-point attempt with three seconds left but Sylvia Fowles grabbedthe offensive rebound, ending the game.
The trio of Fowles (30 points), Clarendon (20 points) and Napheesa Collier -- who flirted with a triple-double at 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists -- scored all but 17 of Minnesota's points. Kayla McBride chipped in nine points, and Damiris Dantas added six.
Las Vegas (10-4), coming into Friday's game on a five-game winning streak and a winner of 8 of 9, countered Minnesota's big three with the tandem of Wilson -- who led the Aces with 28 points and pulled down 14 rebounds -- and Liz Cambage, who went for 18 points and 20 rebounds.
Plum's 15 and Dearica Hamby's 13 points off the bench provided a spark, but Chelsea Gray shot only 3-for-10 from the field to finish with six points, nearly half her per-game average.
Minnesota capitalized on Las Vegas' uncharacteristic 38.5% shooting from the floor, going 46.1% on its own end.
