SARPSBORG, Norway and BELLA VISTA, Ark. – It was an accomplished weekend for Alabama women's golfers, both current and former. Emilie Øverås, a rising junior, and Kenzie Wright, a recent graduate, finished second at the Norwegian National Match Play Championship in Sarpsborg, Norway, and the Bella Vista Charity Classic in Bella Vista, Ark., respectively.
Øverås, a rising junior, competed at the Norwegian National Match Play Championship in Sarpsborg, Norway, Saturday, June 26, capturing runner-up honors. She competed at the 9-hole, par-32 Borregaard Golfklubb, where in the first round she defeated Synne Lauritzen 2&1, and in the quarterfinal she bested Live Hope 4&3. The semifinal is where she shined, winning 10&8 against Celine Brovold Sanne. In the finale, Øverås came up just short, falling to Celine Desiree Karlung in a 4&2 match.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Wright, a recent Crimson Tide graduate, competed at the Bella Vista Charity Classic in Bella Vista, Ark., June 23-26, where she also finished as the runner up after posting a tournament total 10-under-par 278. Playing at the Bella Vista Country Club (par 72, 6,493 yard), Wright posted scores of 73, 72 and 65 through the first three rounds to place second ahead of the final round Saturday. There, she rallied a 4-under-par 68 score to conclude regulation tied for first place with co-leader Jessica Porvasnik. The two advanced to a playoff, where Porvasnik captured the championship title after one hole and Wright garnered second place.
Wright's runner-up finish came less than three weeks after winning the 2021 Texas Women's Open Championship in her home state on June 4, marking the first professional tournament of her career.
