The Blue Devils received victories from redshirt freshmen Patrick Rowland and Brandon LaRue as well as redshirt junior Josh Finesilver, including the fourth career pin for LaRue.
After dropping the first two matches of the day, Duke found itself in a 9-0 hole. Rowland sparked a rally though when he defeated Jake Cherry by a 4-3 decision at 141 pounds. Rowland was holding on down the stretch in this exciting match to garner his first career dual win.
During the next match, No. 19 ranked Finesilver found himself down early to Luke Kemerer but was able to overpower him in the final two periods of the 149 matchup to register the 9-5 decision win. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native earned his 43rd career victory on the day.
LaRue then handed the Blue Devils a 12-9 advantage after the 157-pound dual when he pinned Antonio Petrucelli 3:58 into the match.
Unfortunately, the nationally ranked Panthers claimed victories in the final five matches, including one by way of forfeit to take the win.
Despite dropping his match to Colton Camacho at 125 pounds, rookie Logan Agin impressed during his first career match as a Blue Devil. The Lancaster, Ohio, native went back-and-forth with Camacho before ultimately dropping a 6-4 decision.
Duke welcomes No. 13 North Carolina to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. That dual will be streamed on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be provided.
