SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Falcon women's basketball team dropped a 59-54 contest to San Diego State, Friday evening in Viejas Arena. Air Force drops to 3-9 overall with a 1-6 mark in league action while the Aztecs improve to 5-7, 3-3 MW.
Despite the loss, Air Force senior Kaelin Immel had a historic night as she became the program's all-time leading scorer in the Division I era with 1387 career points. Immel, who scored 15 points on the night, overtook Raimee Beck's seat (2007-2011) as the Falcons' leading scorer since becoming a Division I program in 1996.
Air Force controlled the lead in the first half, holding the Aztecs to just four points in the first quarter and building as much as an 11-point lead in the second quarter. At the halftime break, Air Force led SDSU, 22-17.
San Diego State's shooting significantly improved out of the break while the Falcons had a stale third quarter. The Aztecs shot over .500 in the second 20-minutes to regain and hold a lead, while Air Force shot 38-percent in the second half.
Emily Conroe, the Falcons' leading rebounder, contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals on the evening, shooting 75-percent on the night with all attempts coming from behind the arc.
Kassady Huffman, the league's most prolific shot-blocker, tallied three blocks and eight rebounds on the night. Sophomore forward Nikki McDonald had a career night as she dished out a team-high and personal-best five assists.
SDSU was led by Mercedes Staples' 24 points, six rebound and six assists.
Air Force continues Mountain West action at San Diego State at 1 PM PT, Sunday afternoon (Jan. 24), in Viejas Arena.
