Holiday Break Begins Early Due To Wednesday Postponement - GoDucks.com

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon men's basketball team's matinee against UCLA on Wednesday was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols relating to the officiating crew.

UO coach Dana Altman said a member of the crew tested positive early in the day, before interacting with either of the two teams. Because the same crew worked Tuesday night's game at Oregon State together, contact tracing protocols negated the possibility of playing the game with just the other two officials.

The Pac-12 Conference said it would work with both programs to reschedule the game for later in the season.

"We're just gonna have to fight through, make the best of the situation, just like football did," Altman said. "It's just going to be one of those years."

Altman gave his team the option of leaving Eugene to spend the Christmas holiday with family. He said a majority of players elected to do so.

"I just thought this year, with the pressure they're under, I thought it was important that if they wanted to go home, they go home," Altman said. "And their families felt that, and we're in this together. So it was an easy decision. …

"I told them one more time, I'm counting on you to make good decisions. They've done a good job so far, so I hope they continue that."

The Ducks are scheduled to return to action on New Year's Eve when they host California (7 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
