Duanesburg Jr./Sr. High School students will learn virtually until after the holiday break, district officials announced Monday, citing a positive COVID-19 case among staff and broader staffing shortage caused by the resulting staff quarantines.
The school shifted to an all-virtual learning model Monday until the holiday break beginning Dec. 24 and planned to return to in-person instruction on Jan. 4.
Duanesburg joins a handful of other districts around the Capital Region that have announced building closures that will leave students learning remotely until after the holiday break – or longer. The Greater Amsterdam School District on Sunday announced it was shifting all of its students to fully-virtual learning until after the break, citing over 50 staff members in quarantine across the district. A week earlier, Northville schools said it was shifting its singular school building, which houses all grades, to all-virtual learning through Jan. 15.

Thank you!In its announcement, Duanesburg said one individual staff member tested positive at the school and 12 staff members needed to quarantine as a result, which led to a staffing shortage at the school. The district’s elementary school building is not impacted.
“Going to all-remote learning at the Jr./Sr. High School was not a decision we made lightly, however, based on the staffing shortage in this circumstance, we determined that it would not be possible to continue in-person learning at this time,” a district official wrote in a message announcing the change.
