Boilermakers Set to Suit Up for Intrasquad Time Trials - Purdue Boilermakers

apenabe.blogspot.com
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For their second intrasquad of the fall, the Purdue swimmers are planning to suit up in their fastest racing suits for a co-ed time trials meet Friday evening at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

There are 15 events on the schedule for Friday at 5 p.m. ET. The order of events mirrors a dual meet, with the exception of the 400 individual medley to begin the action. The meet is closed to the public again, but the plan is to stream it on the Purdue Swimming & Diving Facebook page. As a time trials meet, there will be no team scores like the Black & Gold Intrasquad two weeks ago.

The weekend before Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for the midseason fall invitationals, which are also suited meets and generally produce season bests that stand until the conference championships in February. After hosting the three-day, six-session Purdue Invitational at this time last year, the Boilermakers were originally slated to race at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City this weekend (Nov. 19-21).

"Even though it is different, we're just super grateful we even have the opportunity to practice," senior Natalie Myers said after the Nov. 6 intrasquad. "Other teams haven't been so lucky. We're thankful to be in the water."

Meanwhile, selected divers are once again planning to compete their lists in specific events Thursday at 3 p.m. and/or Friday at 10 a.m. Live scores may be available via DiveMeets.com. Their training remains geared toward the USA Diving World Cup Trials, set for Dec. 15 to 20 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

THEY SAID IT: UPPERCLASSMAN ASSESSMENT
Riley Kishman: "As a senior, I want to do things as a team and get the team together. It's difficult to find things that we can do together this semester. The freshmen seem to be having a good time. That's the most important thing for the senior class – figuring out how to integrate the freshmen. Make sure they're doing OK, not missing home and transitioning well with their academics."
Natalie Myers: "I think the freshmen are getting to know everybody. We usually mix up lanes, so in some ways practice is serving as team bonding. We remain in stroke groups for the most part, but then there are days where John allows us to choose our own lanes – so you can be by any random group of teammates. Normally when we do threshold days it's with your own group, but then we have days where we end up spread out more in the water."
Trent Pellini: "I'm unique for a breaststroker. I train doing all the strokes whether I am focusing on IM or not that day. Pretty much every week, there's one day of fly, breast, back and free plus an extra day of rest. It's just how I've always trained and it has worked so far."
Nick Sherman: "Once I reach a goal, I always try to set another one. Qualifying for NCAAs was a goal last year. Now that I've accomplished it, I've set my eyes forward. This year, a lot more focus on freestyle early this season. Last year I had some breakout freestyle races (with relays). So they're looking to me to do a little bit more of that. Overall I'm really impressed. Everyone in practice has been pushing each other really well. My times [at the first intrasquad] were on par with times I've had in previous years, even with the six-month break. So I'm happy with that."
