THE RUNDOWN
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Baylor dropped a 2-1 contest to No. 7 West Virginia on Friday night in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers, looking for their first shutout since their season opener against Iowa State, were denied a clean sheet when sophomore forward Elizabeth Kooiman netted a goal from outside the box into the upper 90 past the diving West Virginia keeper with five minutes left in the match.

Freshman midfielder Gabby Mueller brought the ball down the middle of the field before passing it to Kooiman on the left side. Kooiman, who recorded Baylor's first hat trick since 2010 against WVU a year ago, made a move to juke past a defender before sending in the shot off her right foot.

The Bears continued to battle the rest of the match as they had a corner kick in the 89th minute. Freshman defender Chloe Japic booted the ball into the box, but the WVU goalkeeper picked the ball out of the air to end any threat of a Baylor equalizer.

West Virginia got on the board in the 35th minute when Alina Stahl intercepted a pass in the midfield before finishing with a goal in the lower left corner.

After a couple of big saves by Jennifer Wandt, the Mountaineers added to their lead in the 68th minute when Gabrielle Robinson delivered a through ball to Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel, who finished with a goal in the top of the net.

TOP QUOTES
Paul Jobson on the game…
"It took us a bit to get going, and you can't do that against a great team like WVU. We learned a lot from this match, and I was proud of the team's fight to get a goal back and continue to challenge late for the equalizer."
