Homeowners and business owners say they are dealing with several feet of water in their basements as the water department works to get the scene under control.
The disaster stems from a giant hole in the ground on 6th and Bainbridge.
Crews on the scene are monitoring the situation, and trying to make sure more water doesn't flow into homes and businesses.
Viewer video from around the time the main broke shows water rising several feet from the ground, and gushing like a river, flooding several blocks from Bainbridge to South streets.
The water department says the 30-inch main was 130 years old, and burst around 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters had to go door to door telling people to shelter in place as water flooded their basements.
One woman, who's an interior designer and collector believes she lost $1 million worth of art and furniture.
The Action Cam was there when water knocked out her window and poured into her basement.
"It's my natural disaster. You know, this aging infrastructure in the City of Philadelphia, I'm not really surprised," said homeowner Sandy Ward.
"This river, that's unlike anything I've ever seen even in videos of water main breaks around the city. It just seemed so scary and the water was rising so fast," said Lara Rhame.
One neighbor says he saw a man fall into the hole in the ground. Luckily, he was able to claw his way back up.
It's a dangerous situation on Bainbridge Street, and one that may have cost neighbors their entire homes.
