An Aliso Viejo man serving probation after stealing surgical supplies from a hospital in San Bernardino in January 2020 was arrested Thursday on suspicion of trying to break into the same facility, police said Sunday, Feb. 14.

Roy Chi Wing Lung, 54, was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted burglary and violating his probation, San Bernardino police said in a news release. He was identified by investigators with the help of security at Dignity Health-St Bernardine Medical Center.

They recognized him from a prior theft at the hospital in Jan. 2020 and a subsequent break-in attempt, the release said. Lung was convicted of burglary in June, and was placed on probation, according to court records.

Hospital staff saw someone resembling Lung trying to force open doors and get into the building on Sunday, Dec. 27, police said.

That person managed to run away that day. Security filed a report on Jan. 7, and police were able to obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Lung was held at the West Valley Detention Center on Sunday in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to inmate records.
