Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: 5 adds and 3 drops for NFL Week 9 - Cincy Jungle

apenabe.blogspot.com

This week doesn’t have very many sure-fire pick ups that are certain to turn your team around going into Week 9. Instead, we have plenty of speculative or short-term additions that may help you later on down the road if they continue performing well. We also have a couple players you may want to consider parting ways with, which includes one familiar name.

Adds

Corey Davis, wide receiver, Titans: Davis had a career day against the Bengals, and it has started to cement a bit of hot streak for the wide receiver. He has scored over 15 points the past two weeks, and it seems like his floor seems to be at about 12 points, which he has reached almost five times this season. The Titans will always be a run first team, but as opposing defenses are keying in on A.J. Brown, Ryan Tannehill is starting to find Davis a little more consistently.

Damien Harris, running back, Patriots: The Patriots may finally be starting to settle on a running back. Harris has seemingly edged out Rex Burkhead as he had 16 rushes for just over 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on the day. The thing really working against him is that he doesn’t participate in the passing game at all, which really hurts his consistency. Still, he is owned in less than half of Yahoo Sports’ fantasy leagues, and if you are in need of running back or flex help he could become quite the option if this role continues.

Marvin Jones Jr., wide receiver, Lions: Jones caught three of his seven targets in Week 8, but two of them were for touchdowns. It seems as though Jones is coming back alive in Detroit’s offense, and the hip injury to Kenny Golladay could open up more consistent targets for Jones moving forward. He gets a juicy matchup with the Vikings defense next week, but he may be benchable when he isn’t facing a softer pass defense.

J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, running backs, Ravens: Mark Ingram’s absence created actual fantasy relevance from Baltimore’s backfield. Edwards led the backfield with 16 rushes that he turned into 87 rushing yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Dobbins had 15 rushes for 113 yards along with an eight-yard reception. There is value to be had here with Dobbins being the higher ceiling player, but Edwards having the consistency of getting the goal line work. Of course, whenever Ingram returns that probably blows up this reliability for both players as RB3s or flex plays.

Nyheim Hines, running back, Colts: Hines is owned in just under 30 percent of leagues. He had his second game where he recorded over 20 fantasy points, which included scoring two touchdowns. There is a chance that Hines becomes more involved in this offense’s passing game if T.Y. Hilton can’t play, but also Phillip Rivers loves being able to check it down to a running back in open space. Hines is a stock you are hope you are buying on the rise and not at its peak. It is possible in a few weeks you’ll drop him for another speculative add, or he could become a consistent RB2 in deeper flex leagues.

Drops

Julian Edelman, wide receiver, Patriots: I usually will avoid putting injured players on the drop list because it is usually so dependent on the state of your roster on whether or not you can afford to stash an injured player for a few weeks. You shouldn’t worry about stashing Edelman. He has had a very rough season where he hasn’t scored double digit fantasy points since Week 2. Even once he returns from injured reserve, he will be dealing with a bone-on-bone injury, which is just no good for a receiver at his age who relies on his quickness so much.

Mike Gesicki, tight end, Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa got his first start, and it didn’t result in offensive fireworks through the air. Miami’s defense gave the team a very solid lead to sit on early, but Tagovailoa completed less than 60 percent of his passes for under 100 yards. He did throw one touchdown. All of this is to say that Gesicki just isn’t going to be a reliable start at all at tight end. Having a rookie quarterback has completely bottomed out his floor and lowered his ceiling quite a bit. He has one catch for eight yards in his past two games. That just isn’t worth taking up a roster spot for.

Rashard Higgins, wide receiver, Browns: Odell Beckham Jr. is out, and many fantasy players may be trying to guess how Baker Mayfield will be spreading out his passes now. Higgins seemed like a common answer as he is rostered in over half of fantasy leagues. The Browns are going into a bye, and they have a good matchup against the Texans after that. You may be tempted to hold onto him, and see if he can produce then, but if he doesn’t put up a solid outing against a weak Texans’ pass defense he is better left on the waiver wire.
