MANHATTAN, Kan. –  Kansas State women's golf will make its second trip to Oklahoma within a month and hopes to repeat earlier success that included an individual title and strong debut against a field comprised of Big 12 Conference foes when it tees off at the Cowgirl Classic (Oct. 22-23) at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater.

Big 12 co-player of the month Reid Isaac leads the Wildcats into a nine-team field, including eight league members, on the par-72, 6,156-yard course just 80 miles north of where she captured a share of the medalist honors at the Schooner Fall Classic. K-State slipped to 8th in the 11 team field in Norman but aims to close stronger on an unfamiliar course. K-State's last team competition at Karsten Creek was the 2008 Big 12 Championship, though it's a regular stop on the recruiting trail for head coach Kristi Knight.

"I think we're just happy to be out again, and that should be the same for every student-athlete," Knight said alluding to navigating the challenging season and uncertainties during a worldwide pandemic. "Any opportunity to compete is a blessing. We had some quarantine time in between the two events, but the ladies have had a pretty good week of practice and they are excited and relieved to get back out on the road."

Isaac along with fellow senior Niamh McSherry, and Heather Fortushniak all return to the scoring lineup for K-State. Isaac shot par or better in all three rounds for a career-low 54-hole score while McSherry and Fortushniak carded 34th and 48th place finishes respectively at Belmar Golf Club the last time out. K-State sophomore Haley Vargas earned a spot in the lineup as did freshman Gabriela McNelly, who will make her collegiate debut.

"Haley was disappointed to not make the lineup our first time out," Knight said of the Lubbock, Texas native. "She's played a lot of quality golf, had some nice rounds, and elevated her game. I am pleased to see that."

The determination has also been clear across the whole team, which endured a 14-day quarantine due to close contact, leading up to its departure from Manhattan on Tuesday.

"They wanted to make sure we practiced here today before we left to go to Stillwater," Knight said. "They wanted to have some time to do some things here. They are excited to go play. Any student-athlete is excited for every opportunity to get out this fall with everything that is going on. There's a lot of moving parts."

In addition to K-State and tournament host Oklahoma State, Big 12 foes Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech are in the field, along with BYU and North Texas. Nine of the teams are ranked among the top-11 teams in Golfweek's mini standings. Individually Gurleen Kaur is the top-ranked player in Golfweek's poll with K-State's Isaac in the No. 2 spot.

Play will begin Thursday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. followed by 36 holes of continuous play. K-State is slated to go off holes No. 15 through 18 and are paired with individuals from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. A third and final round on Friday will also begin at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The tournament is free and open to the public, although spectators are asked to respect social distancing guidelines. The Karsten Creek clubhouse is closed to visitors, but the pro shop will be open. Spectators can purchase grab and go food and drinks between holes No. 9 and 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Remote spectators can follow live scoring on Golfstat throughout the event.
